The International Crimes Tribunal is set to deliver its verdict on Tuesday in the crimes against humanity case against seven individuals, including Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader, whose activities remain banned, over atrocities allegedly committed during the July uprising.

The judicial panel of Tribunal-2, led by Justice Nazrul Islam Chowdhury, set the date for delivering the verdict on Monday (September 14).

The panel kept the case for verdict on August 17 after the prosecution and defence completed their closing arguments.

Besides Obaidul Quader, the accused are Awami League Joint General Secretary A F M Bahauddin Nasim, former State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Mohammad Ali Arafat, Jubo League President Sheikh Fazle Shams Parash, Jubo League General Secretary Mainul Hossain Khan Nikhil, Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) President Saddam Hussain and Chhatra League General Secretary Wali Asif Inan.

All seven accused are currently absconding.

The recording of witness testimonies concluded on August 2. A total of 29 prosecution witnesses, including the investigation officer, testified during the trial.

After the completion of the witness examination, the prosecution and defence presented their respective arguments before the tribunal. The proceedings concluded with the case subsequently kept for verdict.

Earlier, on January 22, ICT-2 framed charges against the seven accused and ordered the trial to begin.

The tribunal had accepted the formal charges submitted by the prosecution on December 18 last year, paving the way for the trial.
