The BNP will finalise its candidate for the Thakurgaon-1 by-election on September 18 following a decision by the party’s nomination board.

The by-election to the constituency, previously represented by BNP’s former secretary general and incumbent President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, is scheduled to be held on October 29.

BNP Acting Secretary General Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi disclosed the schedule after a meeting of the party’s Standing Committee at its Gulshan office in the capital on Saturday night.

He said interested BNP candidates will collect nomination forms from the party’s Nayapaltan central office on September 15 and submit the forms the following day, September 16.

The final candidate will be selected on September 18 based on the decision of the BNP’s nomination board comprising members of the party’s National Standing Committee.
