The Bangladesh Jewellers Association has cut the price of 22-carat gold by Tk 4,374 per bhori, including VAT, bringing the price down to Tk 2,36,254.

The revised price will come into effect at 10:00 am on Monday, BAJUS said in a notice.

The association said it had reduced the prices following a decline in the price of pure gold in the local market. The prices were revised considering the overall market situation.

Under the new rates, 21-carat gold will cost Tk 2,25,640 per bhori, while 18-carat gold will cost Tk 1,93,739. The price of traditional gold has been set at Tk 1,58,280 per bhori.

One bhori is equivalent to 11.664 grams.

The revised prices will remain in effect at all jewellery shops until further notice, BAJUS said. Labour charges will continue to apply depending on the design of jewellery.

As VAT is included in the selling price of gold and silver jewellery, jewellers cannot charge VAT separately from customers, the association said. Its existing rules on the exchange and purchase of jewellery will also remain in force, excluding applicable VAT, labour charges and stone prices.
